🎨 Best Practices for Crafters: A Bold Boards DIY Guide

Welcome to the Bold Boards community! Whether you're a seasoned DIY pro 👑 or just getting started, this guide will help you create a graduation cap topper that's bold, beautiful, and built to last.

💪 Built to Be Bold

Bold Boards are crafted from premium, non-PVC plastic that’s:

  • Durable and built to last

  • Heat-resistant up to 350°F 🔥

  • Safe for use with all your favorite tools and techniques

Perfect for:

  • Adhesive & Glitter heat-transfer vinyl (HTV)

  • Sublimation printing

  • Paint & paint pens

  • Rhinestones, glitter ✨, scrapbook stickers, embellishments & more!

🔄 Step 1: Choose Your Side Wisely

  • Glossy Side: Ideal for sublimation printing — delivers a smooth, vibrant finish.

  • Matte Side: Best for paint, HTV, and vinyl — perfect for a clean, creative look.

Pick the side that fits your vision and material!

🧼 Step 2: Prep Like a Pro

  • Wipe the board with a lint-free cloth before applying materials.

  • Alcohol-based cleaners are great and don't leave any residue.

  • Ensure the surface is dry and dust-free for the best results.

🔥 Step 3: Apply Heat Safely

If you're using Glitter HTV or Sublimation:

  • Keep your heat setting under 350°F.

  • Apply even pressure and allow the board to cool fully before handling.

  • Use your Test Pieces to perfect your process.

✂️ Step 4: Cut With Confidence

  • For cardstock or vinyl: Use standard cut settings for your plotter machine.

  • Always test cut a small piece, especially when layering or working with thicker materials.

  • Or, just use scissors.

🧷 Step 5: Stick It and Slay It

  • Permanent vinyl and high-tack adhesives provide the best hold.

  • For rhinestones or heavier decorations, use strong craft glue or epoxy dots for long-lasting results.

🖌️ Step 6: Paint & Glitter Like a Star

  • Acrylic paint and paint pens adhere well to both sides, but a primer or gesso is required.

  • Let each layer dry completely before adding another.

  • Finish with a clear sealant spray (optional) for extra shine and durability.

🎉 Final Touches & Creative Tips

  • Mix materials for a fun, layered look.

  • Match your topper to your theme, school colors, or personality.

  • Design both sides of your topper — there are no rules!
